Qualities of a Hero

Question: How do you define a hero? what qualities does a hero have? is a hero the same as a role model or something quite different? Explain. Answer: A hero can be defined as a person who is simply being admired and praised for his/her outstanding and noticeable achievements, and humble gestures. Since every person has his own ideas and views, the term heroism could be different for each and every human being. The generous qualities and the good deeds are the things that count for the definition of a hero. There are several characters mentioned in our mythologies which have shown the noble virtues, and their deeds are still carved into the minds of people as a perfect example of heroism. Every hero depicts different qualities, but some of the basic qualities of a hero are courage, determination, bravery, compassion, sacrifice, loyalty, dedication, focus, selflessness, fortitude, conviction, sacrifice, virtuosity, responsibility, wisdom, etc. These all are the desired qualities which a person must possess in order to be a great hero(Treasurer, 2009). A hero is expected to be inspirational and should be able to win over their fear, anger, and faults. He/she should be the one who provides help to others and works for the common benefit and not for their own good. There exist different opinions from different persons, but from the researches, it has been found out that the role model seems to be more of a personal viewpoint affecting the personal lives of the people and here is something of the opinion of groups which categorize people on the basis of their works, and actions. A role model is some person who sets perfect examples and a hero is the one who performs good actions to help others(Bricheno Thornton, 2007).
